Islandbridge Wishlist
The on-site swimming pool previously provided a safe, accessible, and efficient way to meet these needs. Since closing during COVID-19, the impact has been significant. Off-site sessions take up to half a day for just 40 minutes of swimming, limiting meaningful, person-centred activities.
The Islandbridge pool was purpose-built, fully accessible, and includes suitable changing facilities unlike many community pools, where limited accessible spaces cause delays.
The heated pool supports muscle relaxation, mobility, and multidisciplinary therapy in a low-impact environment. It also offers important physical and mental health benefits through a flexible sensory space.
An on-site pool provides consistency and reliability, unlike off-site sessions which depend on transport availability. It also allows staff to use their time more efficiently.
Previously, the pool was a shared and highly valued resource across services, with strong engagement.
As seen here, these are images of the current pool, which is no longer fit for purpose.
