Better Care

Mental Health

One in four of us will face a mental health crisis in our lifetime. When that moment comes, St John of God is here, from the first difficult conversation to the road back to yourself. We provide community supports, recovery programmes and specialist inpatient care all across Ireland, walking alongside people through the hardest chapters of their lives and helping them find their way back. In Malawi, where the government allocates just 1.5% of its budget to mental health and there are only five psychiatrists for a population of 18 million, we operate two of only three mental health hospitals in the country. Your support means that wherever someone is, and however far they are from help, there is somewhere to turn.

Dementia Care

A dementia diagnosis changes a family forever. We make sure it doesn’t have to mean facing it alone, supporting the person you love with dignity and specialist care, and supporting the people who love them through every stage of the journey.

Hospital & Clinical Care

St John of God University Hospital in Stillorgan is a leading independent psychiatric hospital and, through its formal academic partnership with UCD School of Medicine, a nationally recognised centre for psychiatric training and clinical excellence.

The hospital’s 180 inpatient beds serve both private and public patients. Through the HSE’s Cluain Mhuire Service, a proportion of those beds are allocated to three dedicated public psychiatric teams, ensuring that acute inpatient psychiatric care is available to patients in the Dublin South-East catchment area regardless of their health insurance status.

State and insurance funding covers the clinical essentials. Your support makes possible the kinds of initiatives that fall outside standard clinical provision, and that make a real difference to the experience of recovery.

Innovation

At St John of God, innovation is about finding better ways to support people, improving safety, increasing independence and enhancing quality of life. By investing in innovation, our supporters help us deliver safer, more personalised and more effective care, ensuring that the people we support can live fuller, more independent and meaningful lives.
