SJOG Family

When you support the SJOG Foundation, you support people who are accessing a range of health, social care, education, housing and international services in Ireland, the UK and Malawi.

Through fundraising, corporate partnerships, philanthropy and the Better Lives Programme, we invest in projects that help people live more independent, fulfilling and connected lives. From specialist equipment and accessible housing to education, recreation and community inclusion initiatives, your support helps services go beyond what statutory funding can provide.

Better Lives

Better Lives is the SJOG Foundation’s flagship grant programme, funding projects across Ireland, the UK and Malawi that improve quality of life, promote independence and strengthen services. Grants support everything across our four pillars – Better Care, Better Community,  Better Spaces & Places, and Better Futures – from improving accessibility and increased use of assistive technology to social inclusion, wellbeing and community participation initiatives.

Every donation helps create opportunities, remove barriers and make a lasting difference for the people supported by the SJOG family.

Together, we’re creating better lives.

The Services We Support

SJOG Community Services supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism and complex support needs to live meaningful, fulfilling lives in their communities. Services include residential and supported living, day services, therapies, respite, employment supports and community inclusion programmes.

Fundraising helps enhance quality of life beyond core funding, supporting accessible environments, assistive technology, social and recreational opportunities, education, wellbeing initiatives and projects that promote independence and inclusion.

St John of God Special Schools, of which there are 7, provide specialist education for children and young people with complex learning, behavioural and additional support needs. Through highly individualised learning plans, therapeutic supports and inclusive learning environments, the schools help students develop academically, socially and emotionally while reaching their full potential.

The Better Lives Programme enables schools to provide opportunities and resources beyond core educational funding. This can include sensory and therapeutic spaces, assistive technology, specialised equipment, outdoor learning environments and programmes that support wellbeing, communication and life skills.

By funding projects that enhance the learning experience, Better Lives helps create inclusive environments where every student can learn, grow and achieve their potential with confidence and dignity.

SJOG Malawi, is one of Malawi’s leading providers of mental health, disability, education and community-based support services. Fundraising income, philanthropic donations, corporate partnerships and grants help fund projects that would otherwise struggle to secure sustainable funding.

Through targeted fundraising appeals, we support a range of initiatives in Malawi, including:

  • Community mental health services and outreach programmes
  • Disability and rehabilitation services
  • Education and vocational training opportunities
  • Child protection and family support programmes
  • Essential equipment, vehicles and service infrastructure
  • Emergency humanitarian responses when communities face crisis or hardship

As international aid funding continues to decline, charitable support is playing an increasingly important role in protecting access to mental health care, disability services and community programmes across Malawi. Through the generosity of donors, partners and supporters, the Foundation helps ensure that vulnerable children, adults and families can continue to access essential services and opportunities for a better future.

Every gift helps bring healthcare, hope and opportunity to communities across Malawi

The SJOG Research Foundation advances research and innovation across the SJOG family, helping to improve services, inform practice and deliver better outcomes for the people we support. Through collaboration with clinicians, researchers, service users and academic partners, it fosters a culture of inquiry that drives evidence-based care and service development.

Through fundraising and strategic investment, the SJOG Foundation supports research projects, innovation initiatives, knowledge translation activities and opportunities to share learning across services. This funding helps turn research into real-world impact, ensuring that new insights and evidence lead to improved care, enhanced services and better lives for the people and communities we support.

This support enables the Research Foundation to explore new approaches, build research capacity and ensure that innovation continues to make a meaningful difference across the SJOG family.
