When we first shared Ruth’s story as part of our 2024 Christmas Appeal, we spoke about the vision for a new community hub in Seatown, Dundalk. A place designed around the lives, interests and ambitions of people with intellectual disabilities. A place that would offer new opportunities to connect, learn, participate and belong.
Today, that vision is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
Recently, members of our team visited the Seatown Community Hub to see the progress for themselves, and what is taking shape is something truly special. The building is in its final stages of development, with each finished room bringing the project one step closer to welcoming the people it was created for.
Located in the heart of Dundalk, the hub will support adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities through a modern, purpose-designed space shaped by inclusion, participation and community. Once open, it will provide opportunities to develop skills, explore interests, build friendships and become even more connected to the local community.
Walking through the building, it is easy to imagine what lies ahead. Spaces that are currently quiet will soon be filled with conversation, activity and laughter. New friendships will be formed. Confidence will grow. Everyday moments, often the most meaningful of all, will unfold as people make the hub their own.
For Ruth, and for many others who will use the service, the significance of a project like this extends far beyond the physical building itself. It represents investment in people’s potential, choice and independence. It reflects a belief that everyone deserves access to spaces where they feel welcome, valued and empowered to participate fully in community life.
That is what makes this project so important.
While an official opening date has yet to be announced, there is a growing sense of excitement as the finishing touches are put in place. After years of planning, support and generosity from so many people, the moment when the first participants walk through the doors is drawing ever closer.
When that day comes, the building will finally become what it was always intended to be: a vibrant community space shaped by the people who use it.
We’ll be sharing more updates soon. But for now, having seen the progress firsthand, one thing is clear: something very special is about to begin in Seatown.
